ENGRAVINGS

This series of laser engraved wood engravings re-present my ephemeral straw and clay sculptures.

Making a steamroller print, an event organized by the Atelier de l'île (engraving workshop) in Val-David, was the starting point of my explorations in wood engraving.

The laser engraver allows you to translate the texture of the sculptures. In the laser-engraved wood prints, we can feel the materiality of straw, clay and its cracks.

Using gouge or laser, through these engraved woods and their impressions, I pursue the representation of a human archetype eroded by the weather, carrying this something that comes to us from our buried memories.

In a modern, industrial world, driven in a frantic pace towards an uncertain future, I want to express the fragility of our human life, its ephemeral reality, our responsibility towards future generations and our dependence on nature.

The majority of my engravings were produced and printed at Atelier de l'île, Val-David, Laurentides, Quebec.
